Grand Manan Adventure Ferry: Blacks Harbour, New Brunswick

The Grand Manan Adventure Ferry travels from Blacks Harbour to Grand Manan Island and back a few times a day. Grand Manan is a beautiful island worth exploring for the great landscapes, nice people, delicious clams and now Mexican food. Stay tuned for my Isla Cocina review. I think you can guess by now that I had the nachos on the ferry to Grand Manan and I would review them on this blog.  Grand Manan Adventure Ferry Beef Nachos - June 2021 Distribution of Toppings The Grand Manan Adventure Ferry nailed it with the distribution of toppings; there was cheese for every chip. In this case, the distribution is not as impressive as with other, larger nachos because there were not as many chips - therefore the proper distribution is easier to achieve. I had this same argument about the nachos at Peddlers Creek   regarding their distribution of toppings. Quality I see cheddar cheese in the picture with a hint of mozzarella poking out in there. The flavor was mostly round chips...

Algonquin Resort: St Andrews, New Brunswick

The Algonquin Resort first opened its doors in 1889 and is located in the beautiful town of St. Andrews, New Brunswick. The hotel's guests have comprised of heads of state and royalty which have included Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Prince Charles, Princess Diana, and virtually every Prime Minister of Canada since confederation. It is close to the Kingsbrae Garden and is about a ten minute walk from downtown St. Andrews where you can find restaurants, pubs, and shops. The Algonquin Resort also has a beautiful golf course that is quite the treat to golf lovers around the world. While watching the Habs stay alive in the 2021 NHL playoffs, I had to try the nachos in the Right Whale Pub, located downstairs in the hotel. Algonquin Right Whale Pub Nachos - June 2021 Algonquin Right Whale Pub Nachos - June 2021 Algonquin Resort: St Andrews, New Brunswick Distribution of Toppings We had the RWP Algonquin Nachos twice in the same day. Both times, there was something for e...

Up to Par: Norton, New Brunswick

Up to Par is located just around the corner from the Midland Golf Course in Norton, New Brunswick. Up to Par was established in 2008 but it is now under new ownership since 2020. They state on their website that their menu has something for everyone. Do they have nachos that are up to par ? I had to find out, especially since it was getting a few mentions on the Foodie Facebook group  for Saint John.  Up to Par Beef Nachos - May 2021 Up to Par Beef Nachos - May 2021 Distribution of Toppings There might have been 3 or 4 chips with nothing on them left over afterwards and that is pretty good compared to the other plates of nachos I have had in New Brunswick. Even so, there were enough toppings to go on the empty chips, so it was not a disaster. Quality I liked how there was plenty of cheese; we did not alter the nachos by asking for extra cheese. There was a blend of cheese that, when combined, made a blanket of gooey cheesy goodness. I liked how there was some green onion and...

James Joyce Pub: Fredericton, New Brunswick

The James Joyce Pub is the hotel bar at the Beaverbrook Crowne Plaza Hotel in Fredericton, NB. It has undergone recent renovations and now features a cozy fireplace, which we enjoyed sitting in front of after a rainy day walking around downtown Fredericton. James Joyce Pub Pulled Pork - April 2021   James Joyce Pub Pulled Pork - April 2021 Distribution of Toppings As you can see from the pictures, the pork was simply placed on top of the nachos and cheese, which is to be expected. No salsa or sour cream was provided with the nachos, but we made do by scooping up bits of the pulled pork and sauce with some of the chips that were left underneath. Nevertheless, we still consider this to be poor distribution of toppings - all chips should be treated equally.  Quality The pork and BBQ sauce was a tasty addition to these nachos. The toppings were kept pretty simple, with just some green onion added in addition to the pulled pork, leaving these nachos with a distinct BBQ feel. The ho...

Cannon's Cross Pub: Fredericton, New Brunswick

Cannon's Cross is located in Fredericton's North Side, not far from the walking bridge and the happening South Side of Fredericton. It used to be that the owner of  The Snooty Fox  also owned Cannon's Cross; however it was sold about three years ago. We were told that the owner of Cannon's Cross also owns  Rustico and Cora's. I had always liked going to Cannon's Cross knowing that there was a bit of a Snooty Fox  influence. It was long overdue for a review of their nachos, and time to see if things had changed over time.  Cannon's Cross Beef Nachos - April 2021 Cannon's Cross Beef Nachos - April 2021   Distribution of Toppings There are no pictures of the chips left over so you know that there was something for every chip. There was about 50% chips and 50% toppings which was the perfect distribution. Maybe I'll say 60% chips and then 40% toppings. 60 + 40= 100% points in this section.  Quality I think you could tell from my intro that although the ...

Pete's Nachos

The theme that seems to be occurring throughout 2020 is that homemade nachos are becoming much more impressive than anything that can be experienced out there at a restaurant. Sometimes the restaurant can cook better than friends and family, but most times, nothing beats a good home cooked meal. This was one of those times. Pete is a guy that I recently met for the first time and one of the first facts about myself that I revealed to him was that I have tried almost all the nachos in Saint John and rated them in this blog. He started telling us about how to make good nachos and then, all of a sudden, we were devouring not one plate, but two huge plates of his nachos that he took a lot of time to prepare.  I really honestly do not think I've had nachos like this before. Every bite was full of flavor and my photographer added the dips on the side to make it a big explosion in your mouth every step of the way to completion of what would heavily compete with Sneaky Dee's in Toronto...

East Coast Pub & Grill: Saint John, New Brunswick

The East Coast Pub & Grill is located close to the new overpass on the east side of Saint John, New Brunswick. I received a text from my photographer that I was invited for some snacks and drinks on a Friday night before our vacation and my first response was "ok, order nachos" as it is all part of the research experience. East Coast Pub Beef Nachos - March 2020 East Coast Pub Beef Nachos - March 2020 Distribution of Toppings Judging from the picture, they look fantastic. However, the makeup comes off and we were left with many chips with nothing on them afterwards. Quality The beef, chips, veggies were tasty but I would have preferred restaurant style tortilla chips instead of round chips. I find that round chips kind of makes them like homemade nachos. Quantity I shared these nachos and then had some tacos at home later that night. They are only meant for a snack while you have some beers. I would not go there with the expectation that you are going...

Jason's Nachos

I am so happy to say that our friend had us over for an epic supper one winter night. His name is Jason! Jason's Nachos- February 2020 Jason's Nachos- February 2020 There was a big pan full of nachos and plenty for the 4 of us to share! There was a lot of cheese on every chip and the beef had a very good kick to it. He had guacamole (lesley made it), salsa, sour cream and hot sauces for the daring! I was so satisfied with the amount of nachos that I didn't even have popcorn later on that night! With homemade nachos, I do not rate them the same as I would for a restaurant but I can't rate them higher than my photographer's nachos. Sorry Jason!! haha Nacho Blog Rating: A

Grannan's Seafood and Grill, Saint John, N.B.

Since 1983 Grannan's has been serving seafood and grill to locals and tourists. Located in Market Square in the downtown core, if you sit outside in the summer, you will have a great view of some local music or bands that come to Saint John to play. After the Seadogs lost to Moncton in what seemed like a flashback to the 2005/2006 season, we decided to do research for the nacho blog. You must notice that it is not often that I have a new blog entry on a place in Saint John because I am pessimistic about what there is left to rate. I feel that if I go to a new place, based on my past experience where the picture did not take or word of mouth, that I will be disappointed. Grannan's was one of those places that I went into it with low expectations because I had their nachos in 2013, was unimpressed, and the bad impression stayed with me. However, I think I should get over what happened so long in the past. Or maybe the first impression was the accurate impression? Let's see: ...

Another Tanya's Nachos

Sometimes, you are friends with people who have the same name. This is one of those times. Tanya is not to be confused with the Tanya who made the cake nachos. They are two different Tanya's!!! Ok, we went to Tanya's house in a cold snowy winter day where there was a long game of Crazy Eight Countdown that Tanya came from behind and won. In between all the craziness were multiple plates of nachos that Tanya made. Tanya's Nachos- January 2020 Tanya's Nachos- January 2020 Tanya made sure to not only put a lot of cheese on the nachos, but to effectively layer the cheese so that there was something for every chip. There was a spice on the meat and some oil on the chips to prepare for the possibility of there being a chip with no cheese on it. In addition, I liked how there was corn to the nachos because it added an original flavor. Further, she had three different dips: Salsa, guacamole, and sour cream for some variety! She also made a lot of nachos because sh...
