Kennedy Inn & Shiretown Pub: St. Andrews, New Brunswick

The Kennedy Inn is located in the heart of downtown St. Andrews, New Brunswick. It features 25 rooms and a pub called Shiretown Pub that serves seafood, pasta, and pub food... including nachos! We stopped at the Shiretown Pub just before hiking the Van Horne Trail (just down the street), and we had a lot of good fuel going into that hike! When I was ordering my food, I was torn because I wanted a new nacho experience, but I also wanted to have some good seafood. I decided to share the nachos as an appetizer before having some seafood chowder. One of my favorite things about nacho blogging is finding a hidden gem in another town. This experience was definitely a nice surprise.

Distribution of Toppings

I would give it a 8/10 for the distribution of toppings. There were some chips at the bottom with no cheese on them but we had plenty of stray toppings to use, so there was something for every chip.

Quality

I think this might be the only time in my nacho-eating experience that I have had a good plate of nachos made with round chips. I am not going to lie: I was worried at first when I saw the round chips, but the toast factor was so spot on that the cheese was well-melted, and stayed on the chips. Look at all that cheese! Also, this is how the plate comes - there is no "extra cheese" option (not that you'd need it!) I could taste all the onions, bell peppers, black olives and jalapenos together with the beef, which went nicely with the Mount Everest of cheese.

Value

The Nacho Grande is $13.99. If you add chicken or beef, it is $4.99 extra. No, none of that was a typo. They really hit a homerun with the value on these nachos.

Quantity

We shared it as an appetizer but it was enough for a meal. I will remember for next time that it will be a tough decision between the nachos and the seafood chowder, unless we bring friends!

Conclusion

Sometimes, after so many entries on this nacho blog, I feel like I have experienced all the greats when it comes to nachos in New Brunswick. However, the Shiretown Pub proved me wrong in that I still have a lot left to experience in my quest for the best nacho. My advice to the Shiretown Pub would be to layer the cheese so that every chip has some. While the distribution of cheese & toppings was not perfect, they nailed every other parameter on what makes a great nacho.
