Captain Dan's Seafood Bar & Grill: Pointe-du-Chêne, New Brunswick

It was NB Day weekend and we decided to visit some family and eat some delicious food in Shediac. The weekend definitely did not disappoint! On one of the nights we decided to walk the beautiful trails to the Pointe-du-Chêne Wharf where we visited an old favorite: Captain Dan's. I am not sure exactly when this restaurant opened, but I think it has been around since at least the 90's. We got there on a hot August evening to find a big line of people waiting to be seated. We employed our usual tactic and went straight to the fairly empty bar, skipped the line, and got our nachos. Secret's out!

Captain Dan's Veggie Nachos - August 2025

Captain Dan's (what was left over) oh no!

Distribution of Toppings

The distribution of toppings was very poor as you can see from the pictures. All the fun was at the top and there was nothing underneath the hood.

Quality

The salsa and jalapeños were nice and spicy and the cheese at the top was tasty. We recommend you ask for extra cheese when ordering these nachos. There were onions, tomatoes, and green peppers - a good amount of each. These were kind of boring run-of-the-mill nachos with not much personality. They could benefit from some extras like seasoning, cilantro on top, option for steak pieces, special sauce, or hot sauce availability.

Quantity

This was good to share as a snack, but it might not be enough to share as a meal, even with chicken added to it. Maybe with extra cheese it would be more substantial.

Value

The Giant Loaded Nachos are $19.99. If you add chicken, it is $7.99 extra. I think the price is fair considering we were on the Pointe-du-Chêne wharf, a particularly touristy part of town. However, I'm not sure if the chicken would have been good enough to justify almost $8 more. It better be big chucks of fresh BBQ chicken. I guess I'll have to go back and find out.

Conclusion

The top part of these nachos was pretty tasty but the distribution was very poor. An excuse could be given that the staff were swamped, however we went to many places this summer that were touristy and swamped, and they nailed their nachos. I think this is more of a seafood place, but we'll try the chicken nachos with extra cheese next time I go!
